Ben Carlos Cleary

Author and Journalist

Ben Carlos Cleary is an author, journalist and teacher. He has written extensively for a variety of media, including print, web, video, and radio. His journalism has aired on All Things Considered and appeared in the New York Times and Richmond’s Style Weekly. His creative biography of Stonewall Jackson is available now from Hachette Book Group.

From 2003 to 2016 he taught full-time in Virginia’s juvenile justice system, mostly at the maximum-security Beaumont Juvenile Correctional Center. He has also been a park ranger, free-lance writer, editor, and teacher. He earned an MA in English from the University of Virginia, where he studied with Peter Taylor, John Casey, and Gregory Orr.
